The majority of people sleep on an old mattress longer than they should, waiting until pain or discomfort set in before making the change.

Do You Need a New Mattress?

Take our quick quiz to see if it's time for you to upgrade.

  • Do you find your bed uncomfortable?
  • Do you ever wake up with stiffness or aches and pains?
  • Do you sleep better at hotels than you do at home?
  • Does your mattress sag or have lumps, peaks or valleys?
  • Has it been more than 10 years since you re-evaluated your sleep needs?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then it may be time to replace your mattress.

How to Pick the Right Mattress for You

Everybody’s body is different, and bodies change over time.  What was right for you ten years ago may not be right for you today. Answering the questions below will help direct you to the right mattress.

What is your primary sleeping position?  Side? Back? Stomach?

People who sleep on their side tend to need a gentler mattress because their shoulders and hips need more cushioning and the give in the mattress helps eliminate pressure points. People also tend to believe they need a firmer bed than what is actually best for them.  An excessively firm mattress can be a recipe for discomfort.  McRoskey  provides several comfort choices so that you can find your perfect comfort level.

Do you tend to sleep alone or with a partner?  Do your pets sleep on the bed? Do your children climb in the bed in the middle of the night or early Saturday morning?

The size of the mattress is almost as important for fit as the comfort level.  You should consider a larger bed if you are constantly crowded. If your partner is particularly tall or heavy, you may consider a larger bed.  If you like it cozy, you might want to consider a smaller size.

What style of bed do you have? Are you shopping for a mattress for a traditional bed set, a platform bed or an adjustable bed?

Our CLASSIC Tufted collection was designed from the ground up for optimal comfort. Our Classic mattresses and box springs are designed to work together to create an amazingly comfortable sleep experience.

Our higher-profile NATURAL Tufted collection is built a bit loftier so this mattress works well on a platform bed, an adjustable bed or paired with the Natural Box Spring.

Our PLATFORM Tufted collection was designed for optimal comfort without a box spring, and works well on adjustable beds as well.

Are you a light sleeper that is easily woken up by motion transfer?

There are many options to resolving the motion transfer issue. Our queen sets have the option to have the box springs built as one unit or two. Our king sets always come in two pieces.  Separate box springs with a continuous mattress solves the motion transfer issue for many people.

If you need  more motion isolation, we can build your king set as a split set. This means each partner would have their own mattress and box spring.  An additional advantage of this solution is that each person can choose their own mattress comfort - so you don't have to compromise.

How to Test out Mattresses

Define your needs. Answer the questions above, and determine if you need something a bit gentler or a bit firmer, and what kind of bedstead you are shopping for.

Try out. Lie down on potential mattresses for at least 15 minutes. Make sure you try it out in your natural sleeping position, and if you tend to sleep next to someone, make sure to try it out with them.

Relax. Let your body tell you what's comfortable - your needs may have changed since the last time you bought a mattress.

Firm isn't necessarily better. Choose a firmness that allows your body to relax quickly and naturally.

Size is an aspect of comfort. Be sure to choose a size that is large enough to allow for free, easy movement.
